The Helper

Posted by Anthony Crumley

As believers, God wants us to know Him and to understand spiritual truth.  The problem is that we are not capable of knowing those things on our own.  Even the disciples, who spent so much time being taught by Jesus, really didn’t understand much of what He said.  So, as Jesus was about to be crucified, He told the disciples He would send them a Helper who would reteach them everything He told them.  “The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.”  (John 14:26)  We have the same Helper living inside us today, willing to teach us the most incredible things.

“No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.”  But we know these things because God has revealed them to us by his Spirit, and his Spirit searches out everything and shows us even God’s deep secrets.  No one can know what anyone else is really thinking except that person alone, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit.  And God has actually given us his Spirit (not the world’s spirit) so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us.  When we tell you this, we do not use words of human wisdom. We speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths.  But people who aren’t Christians can’t understand these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them because only those who have the Spirit can understand what the Spirit means.  (1 Cor. 2:9-14, NLT)

The Holy Spirit is always with us and willing to help us understand what God wants us to know.  Are we listening to our Helper?  Are we depending upon Him to reveal to us what God wants us to know?  Or, do we live as if He does not even exist?

Thanks, Anthony, for your servicing the website for The Church At Brierfield. It keeps all of us who are interested posted as to what is going on even though we can’t be there for every service.
    God Bless You!
